Let’s say you’ve gone back in time. . .

This has been around for several years, and there are definitely some flaws with it, but I love the hell out of the concept (which should surprise nobody) and it’s a mighty fine looking poster or shirt, which you can (and should) purchase here.

The Post-Apocalypse Handbook Project

I’m not going to say that my friends are all complete crazy people, but only because they’d come after me (and you don’t want crazy people after you). However, it does seem like we all probably spend a bit too much time thinking about the apocalypse, and how it’s, you know, coming. If you look around on the internet, you’ll find no dearth of people opining on what should be gotten together and kept in your trunk for when zombies inevitably make their presence known (you might be surprised at how many nerdy trunks are full of firearms, axes, and paracord). What you don’t see a great deal of, though, is good, solidly-researched lists of what medicines are best to loot or diagrams of simply-built indoor plumbing schemes.

What we felt was needed was a handbook that assumes that what you have available to you is, well, the handbook. It will contain the skills you need to survive, to live well, and to build a new world for yourself in the aftermath of whatever.

So, that’s the idea for the Handbook. After many months of percolation and some light work on it, Jarrett Butler joined me on it. To make it easier to work on, I put the whole thing on a wiki, and that’s when I realized that this project is perfectly suited to wiki format. So, we’ve decided to make the wiki publicly available while we’re working on it. This will give us the opportunity to get feedback and knowledge from all of those helpful and brilliant people out there on the internet, and maybe even get some new contributors and editors. Expand the team. So check out the wiki, please. Tell us where we’re going wrong. We’ll try to keep this blog updated with what’s going on with the project and in the world of post-apocalyptic studies.
